Cooper Teare’s national tour made another impressive stop Friday at the 59th Mt. SAC Relays and the St. Joseph Notre Dame CA senior nearly added a historic chapter to one of the nation’s most prestigious meets at El Camino College’s Murdock Stadium in Torrance.

Teare clocked 4 minutes, 0.16 seconds in the Brooks PR high school mile, becoming the second prep athlete – joining Sam Worley of New Braunfels Canyon TX – to come within less than a second of breaking the 4-minute barrier this year.

Teare, the New Balance Nationals Indoor mile champion, improved to No. 10 all-time in the outdoor mile. The Oregon signee now boasts national-leading times in the mile, 3,200 (8:41.46) and 5,000 (14:13.26).

Yui Fukuda of Japan ran the No. 2 time in the world this year to win the women’s 5,000 meters in 15:23.48.

Alicja Konieczek, a sophomore at Western State in Colorado, became only the third woman in NCAA Division 2 history to run under 9:52 in the women’s 3,000 steeplechase, clocking 9:51.09 for the No. 3 time in the world this year. Konieczek, representing Poland, led six women under 10 minutes.

Tulsa senior Marc Scott improved to No. 2 among collegiate performers this year in the 5,000 by winning in 13:37.45. Only Colorado State’s Jefferson Abbey, with his 13:37.23 at Stanford, has run faster.

Former UTEP star Anthony Rotich won the men’s 3,000 steeplechase in 8:39.96, which ranks ninth in the world this year.

Amanda Eccleston, representing Brooks, held off Oregon freshman Katie Rainsberger by a 4:12.86 to 4:13.25 margin in the women’s 1,500, both ranking in the top 10 in the world this year.

David Torrence, representing HOKA One One, prevailed in the men’s 1,500 in 3:43.58.

Centennial NV ran a national-leading 9:07.31 in the girls 4x800 relay, lowering the mark of 9:07.38 by Chandler AZ from the 50th Arcadia Invitational.

Great Oak CA repeated in both the boys 4x800 (7:47.69) and 4x,1600 (17:29.53), in addition to winning its third straight title in the girls 4x,1600 (20:14.29).

Sonoma Academy CA junior Rylee Bowen edged Anna Gibson of Jackson WY 4:48.44 to 4:48.48 to win the Brooks PR girls high school mile.

Lauren Gregory of Fort Collins CO captured the Brooks PR girls high school 3,200 in 10:08.31.

Evert Silva of Fresno CA secured a victory in the Brooks PR boys high school 3,200 in 8:54.74, holding off senior Michael Vernau of Davis Senior CA in 8:56.45.
